Recent Holiday Highlights (Part 1)

It has now been ten days since we returned home from a wonderful two week Celebrity cruise around Norway, Shetland Islands and Iceland.

Surprisingly, the weather was absolutely fabulous with sunshine everyday for the whole 14 days, something which is very extraordinary for these parts of the world. We were prepared for all weather conditions with jumpers, coats, gloves, hats and scarves and didn't need any of them (if only we had known, we wouldn't have paid for an extra bag for the plane!)

We started our journey in Copenhagen, a beautiful little city where the 'Little Mermaid' lives.

This statue was inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land.
Every morning and evening she swims to the surface from the bottom of the sea and, perched on her rock in the water, she stares longingly towards the shore hoping to catch a glimpse of her beloved prince.

Day 2 - Oslo  Norway
We travelled around the city on an Hop on Hop off Bus visiting various landmarks and finished off with a welcome drink in the Ice Bar. It was a good job that all clothing and gloves were provided as it was another hot and sunny day and we were dressed in shorts!

Inside the Ice Bar the temperature is permanently -5degreesC. All seating, walls, statues, drinking glasses and the bar were made of ice
The famous Angry Boy

Day 3   Kristiansand in Norway.

Lovely scenery, harbour, lakes and beaches. Paul even dragged me around a carboot sale (selling jet ski's, not the ones we are used too), which was set-up on one of the jetty's.

Day 4 - Stavanger, Norway
Beautiful scenery with lots of mountains and waterfalls. We had a trip on a boat through the smaller Fjords so we could see the scenery close-up.

Day five - Day at Sea
We spent the day relaxing around the ship. On all sea days there were scrapbooking classes  for us to attend with complimentary scrapbook packs. I even got my husband joining in and was proud of his creations. The lady said Paul 'made her cruise!'. I think she meant the scrapbooking!.

 Day Six -  Torshavn
Capital and largest town of the Faroe Islands. The name Faroe is derived from two Faroese words which mean 'sheep' and 'islands'.  As the name suggests there were lots of sheep and islands!!

Most of the houses had grass growing on the roof!  This is for extra insulation to make the houses warmer. I'm pleased I am not cutting the lawn and doing the gardening. We were told they use Goats!

Day Seven - Day at Sea
Another time to relax and you guessed it, more eating, drinking, sunbathing and scrapbooking.
During the first week, we had our first Formal Night and a chance for us to Dress Up!.

We are half way through the trip  so please pop back tomorrow to continue with the rest of the holiday
